Our amazing analysts at ForecastWatch examined 15 different weather forecast providers plus persistence to provide a holistic analysis of weather forecast performance for global forecasts and forecasts in Europe made one to five days in advance for 2024. This report analyzed five weather forecasting metrics from each provider including 24-hour high temperature, 24-hour low temperature, probability of precipitation, text precipitation, and icon precipitation.
In our analysis, the overall most accurate weather forecast provider globally was Microsoft with an accuracy of 79.51%. This is the third consecutive year that Microsoft has held this title by ForecastWatch. The Weather Channel was close behind in second with an accuracy of 79.23%. Foreca ranked third overall with an accuracy of 77.69%.
The Weather Channel placed first in global high temperature and icon precipitation forecasting. Microsoft ranked first in global low temperature, probability of precipitation, and text precipitation forecasting.
One of our clients, Foreca, was a provider evaluated in this report. Foreca is a Finnish weather forecasting company that is a top-three provider globally, with a very strong performance with precipitation forecasting in Europe.
