Markets and Filters
ForecastWatch organizes weather providers into market segments so you’re always benchmarked against relevant competitors. Understanding how markets and filters work is essential to getting meaningful insights from the platform.
Market Segments
ForecastWatch defines the following market segments:
- Consumer Weather: Consumer-facing weather apps and websites
- Weather Data & APIs: B2B weather data providers and API services
- Enterprise Weather Intelligence: Enterprise-grade weather analytics and decision support
- Government & Research: National weather services and research institutions
- All Markets: View data across all segments combined

Setting Your Default Market
You can set your default market in Settings. This determines which market is pre-selected when you open any screen. The market selector dropdown will show your default market under “Your Market” for quick access.
Filter Controls
The filter bar appears on most analytics screens and includes:
Month Picker
Use the left/right arrows to step through months, or click the date label to open a calendar picker. You cannot select the current month (data is only available for completed months).
Days Out Selector
This controls the forecast lead time. Options include:
- Days 1-3: Short-range forecasts
- Days 4-6: Medium-range forecasts
- Days 7-9: Extended-range forecasts
- Days 10-14: Long-range forecasts
- Individual days: Day 1 through Day 14 individually

Location Filter
Filter results by geographic region: All Locations, North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, or Middle East.
Metric Selector
Where available, you can select specific forecast metrics to analyze:
- Temperature: 24hr High/Low, MOS High/Low
- Precipitation: 24hr PoP, 24hr Precip, MOS PoP
- Wind: 24hr Wind, MOS Wind
- Sky: 24hr Opacity, MOS Opacity
Stat Selector
Choose which statistical measure to display:
- Avg Error: Mean signed error
- Abs Error: Mean absolute error
- RMS Error: Root mean square error
- No Error: Percentage of perfect forecasts
- Within ±3°: Percentage within 3 degrees
- Over 10°F: Percentage with errors exceeding 10 degrees
